Admissions Policy The Academy seeks a student body that is passionate about the arts, that works and learns together as a community, and that reflects the diversity of the city of Boston. In reviewing applications for admission, the Academy will therefore seek evidence of the following qualities: potential and ability in the arts; the commitment and self-discipline to advance in both artistic and academic studies; and the ability to contribute to building a successful, supportive and inclusive school community. |
You must be a Boston resident to attend the Boston Arts Academy Students do not need to live in Boston at the time they start the admissions process at BAA. However, only students who are residents of the City of Boston by February 1, 2008 will be accepted.
Neighborhoods which are considered part of the City of Boston are Allston, Brighton, Dorchester, East Boston, Jamaica Plain, Hyde Park, North End, Roslindale, Roxbury, South Boston and South End.
There may be exceptions to this policy if the students are coming from another state or another country. |

Application Process The application process is designed to give all students the opportunity to demonstrate their ability, potential and commitment. All interested students, at all levels of prior experience, are encouraged to apply.
The application process consists of two stages: the audition registration with an arts evaluation form and the audition in the arts. A panel composed of staff from Pro Arts Colleges, artists from community arts organizations and BAA staff conducts the auditions.
If the student is accepted or placed on the waiting list, he/she needs to complete three forms: 1. The written application, which includes two essays 2. An academic evaluation form 3. A
records release form 4. Transcripts |
Acceptance and Retention Policy Once a student is accepted into the Boston Arts Academy, they are informed of their rights, privileges and responsibilities as a BAA community member. These are clearly articulated in the Contract of Acceptance signed by both the students and their parent or guardian. Boston Arts Academy offers many opportunities for support for students who are struggling with their course work. If a student is consistently ineligible because of her/his performance in her/his major or in academic classes, and has not taken advantage of the support mechanisms
offered, she/he may be denied readmission to Boston Arts Academy for the following academic year.
Parents and students may appeal a decision for admission or re-admission by requesting a hearing in writing to the Boston Arts Academy administration. |
